Silence – A poem

Silence by Suzanne Allen

Late night thoughts.
Silence is deafening.
Peace still being sought.

Angry words are thrown about.
Silence drowns the noise
The heart wants to shout.

Tired of feeling alone.
Surrounded by silence.
No one here in this home.

Looked for something good.
Silence, a long companion.
Be patient was understood.

Never knowing what it meant.
To hear requires silence.
Waited and waited, never giving in.

Now realize it was always a maybe.
To be silent so it can be heard.
Nothing in life is a guarantee.

The direction to follow is no longer clear.
Silence keeping awake.
Hope replaced truth, belief replaced fear.

Long restless night.
Silence all that can be heard.
Waiting for tomorrow’s sunlight
